Duties include preliminary engineering, estimating, contract preparation, final design drawings, contract administration, supervision/inspection of construction projects, management of project funds, investigating and responding to inquiries from contractors, staff and the public; interacting with applicable city departments, engineers and developers.  Must have excellent organizational and time management skills, and ability to solve problems with minimal direct supervision.

The successful candidate will have a B.S. in Civil Engineering, excellent communication skills (written and verbal), and a valid PA Drivers License.

The duties of the Mechanic are to perform maintenance and repair work on all City owned mobile equipment, excluding Fire Department equipment.
  • Evaluate and diagnose all automotive problems.
  • Tune-up and overhaul motors on vehicles such as cars, trucks, motorcycles, tractor trailers, compactors, sweepers, hi-lifts, bulldozers, shovels, graders, backhoes, snow plows, lawn mowers, pumps, and miscellaneous equipment.
  • brakes and clutch assemblies.
  • Repair or replace parts and sub-assemblies.
  • Replace exhaust systems.
  • Perform state inspections/emissions on all vehicles owned by the City of Erie.
  • Rebuild or repair hydraulic hoists on dump trucks. Recondition motorcycle engines.
  • Maintain program of preventive maintenance, including maintenance of machine tools.
  • Make emergency repairs in the field.
  • Evaluate and repair diesel problems, fuel injection systems and hydraulic problems on compactor packing systems.
  • Machine parts and perform other operations to repair or rebuild engines, starters, carburetors, generators, hydraulic shop equipment and shop tools.
  • Disassemble, inspect, and clean parts; install new or machined worn parts.
  • Assist in parts room if necessary.
  • Follow all safety regulations as specified by the City of Erie.
  • Perform other similar and related duties as required.
Certified State Inspector/Emissions License (B) minimum with air brakes.
Valid PA Driver’s license.
CDL (B) and the documents for air brakes and combination.
Must have own tools.
